1. Overview of Shanghai Meifan
Shanghai Meifan Yacht Club (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Meifan) was founded in 2004 with the support of the General Administration of Sport of China and various levels of government in the city and district. It is a planned sailing sports initiative aimed at providing water leisure activities for urban families. After more than a decade of fully market-oriented operation, it has become a platform-oriented service provider for sailing sports with over 3,000 offline family members, 60 million online youth fans, the highest level of internationalization in the industry, and the most frequent various types of events (accumulating nearly 300 various professional and amateur events). It satisfies and reflects the diverse cultural and sports lives of international metropolitan citizens and the sense of national sports accessibility. Shanghai's sailing development has also received attention from the World Sailing Federation and Asian Sailing, with the Shanghai International Sailing Port as an important part of the city's functions.
In January 2017, Shanghai Meifan was named a National Sports Industry Demonstration Unit by the General Administration of Sport of China. In August of the same year, it was selected as the first batch of National Sports Administration's national sports leisure characteristic towns - Shanghai Jinze Sailing Sports Leisure Characteristic Town.
2. Development Model of Shanghai Meifan
Strong Family Participation: Sailing is a sport that is strong in family participation and has a high environmental awareness. It is both a social activity and a family interactive project. For over a decade, rooted in physical clubs and waterside leisure bases, we have adhered to targeting urban family groups, providing high-quality services that meet the consumption upgrade of urban residents, reducing the threshold for this sport, and transforming the imagined "elite sport" that was once out of reach into an "elite sport" that ordinary people can accept.
Volunteer Culture: Carry forward the tradition of club member volunteer service and self-management; adhere to the inheritance of the century-old sailing culture and the spirit of the Olympics and Chinese sports, and play an important role in urban construction.
Promote Brand through Events: Tap into the local event history and culture of the "Shanghai Cup" in 1873 to create a local high-quality event IP. Continue to host the Citizens' Sailing League, the Asian Sailing Federation Cup Sailing Race, and other amateur events and international professional events. Combining events with popularization, we create a citizens' water sports park, making sports life-oriented and community-oriented.
Internationalized Training: Benchmarking international advanced training systems IYT and RYA, popularizing the national CYA training system, and conducting various maritime sports education and promotion work for nearly 10,000 young people every year, expanding the influence of national maritime consciousness among young people.
Technology as a Driver: Make full use of new technology and the advantages of the club platform. Over the past decade, the industrial incubation format has basically taken shape. Leveraging the combination of sports technology and sports culture, closely embracing the Internet industry, displaying the connotation of sports events through forms such as communities and live broadcasts, making it younger, more entertaining, and more popular.
Olympic Glory: On the basis of introducing the training concept of Western sports talents, explore a new model for Chinese social forces to deliver talents to the country. Develop the national NACRA-level sailing team in cooperation with the China Sailing Association. In 2015 and 2016, we achieved two Asian championships and one world runner-up in international competitions. The recent goal of Shanghai Meifan is to represent Asia and achieve good results in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
3. Development Goals:
Leveraging its unique location advantages, benchmarking the highest environmental standards and the best industry construction levels internationally, Shanghai Meifan aims to create the most dynamic and innovative sailing sports leisure characteristic town with world-class standards in Shanghai's world-class lake area. It will provide replicable models for industrial transformation and urban sports consumption upgrades to other inland waters in China."
